Your IP Phone cannot connect to the PBX, and it’s displaying a No Service message along with another message that says: Obtaining IP address… like shown below?
Troubleshoot Obtaining IP address on IP Phone
The possible reasons for this error are:
- Your network cable is connected to where it shouldn’t be
This is a very rare reason, but we have seen it before. Make sure that the cable labeled Internet on the back of your IP Phone is connected to a network cable that comes from your Internet router. We had a couple of people hooking by mistake the network cable labeled Internet to their computer network port. Please, remember that the port on the back of the IP Phone labeled Internet must be the one that was connected to your computer. And that you should connect a network port from your IP Phone to your computer using the port on the back of the IP Phone labeled PC to your computer (also works on macs no worries)
- Your network has the myPBX required ports blocked
This is the most common reason for this error. Please take a look at our PBX required network ports article to find out more.
Once your phone is properly connected to a network with the required ports, you will see your phone extension connected and ready to call.
